International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award Information for libraries

Q: Who may nominate titles for consideration?
A: Librarians of capital and major cities worldwide may nominate up to three novels for consideration in accordance with the rules and conditions applicable.

Q: Should the nominations be based on popularity of titles issued by Public Libraries?
A: No. Titles should be nominated solely on the basis of "high literary merit".

Q: How do I nominate?
A: Nomination is by invitation. Chief Librarians who are interested in nominating should contact the Dublin City Public Libraries Award Office for details including official nomination forms.

Q: What is the final date for receipt of nominations for the 2009 Award?
A: The nominations are due in the Dublin City Public Library Award Office on2nd May 2008. This time-frame is to allow for: contact with the publishers worldwide · receipt of titles · checking eligibility of titles nominated · cataloguing and database development prior to the judging process. Librarians are asked to cooperate in respect of early nomination. The full list of eligible nominated titles will be made public in early November 2008.

Q: Are nominations accepted from sources other than libraries?
A: No. Nominations are only accepted from libraries which submit titles for consideration on the official nomination form. The form must be signed by the Chief Librarian and contain necessary contact details for verification.

Q: Who manages the nomination process and liaison with publishers?
A: Dublin City Public Libraries manages the entire process of nomination which involves over one hundred and fifty public libraries in a unique international library cooperative effort. It also liaises with publishers of nominated works who provide copies for the judging process as a requirement of eligibility. The process is managed by Dublin City Librarian, Deirdre Ellis-King. Cathy McKenna, Senior Librarian, is assigned to the Library Award Office on a full-time basis and will be happy to deal with all enquiries.
