Joe Rose’s calm, organised life is shattered by a ballooning accident one windy spring day in the Chilterns. The afternoon could have ended in mere tragedy but for his brief encounter with Jed Parry. Unknown to Joe, something passes between them and gives birth in Parry to an obsession so powerful that it will test Joe’s beloved scientific rationalism to the limit, threaten the love of his wife, Clarissa, and drive him to desperate measures to stay alive. Enduring Love is the story of how an ordinary man can be driven to the brink of murder and madness by another’s delusions.

Ian McEwan has written two collections of stories and eight novels, including Black Dogs, The Daydreamer, and, most recently, Amsterdam.
