| Michael Hofmann, translator into English of The Land of Green Plums, received a trophy and a cheque for £25,000. | Herta Müller received her prize at a gala dinner in Dublin on 13th June 1998. The specially commisioned trophy, sponsored by Waterford Crystal, was presented by the President of Ireland, Mrs Mary McAleese, and the author also received a cheque for £75,000. |
